DNG specializes in our cabling techniques
and professional approach to giving the customer
the most advanced backbone and infrastructure
available in today's commercial and residential
applications. DNG has many solutions to all
of your wiring and low voltage needs. DNG
does it all from copper (cat3, cat5, cat5e,
cat6, feeders, underground and coaxial), to
glass (fiber optics). DNG is also certified
in Structured Wiring Solutions by OnQ Technologies.
| Description:
Cat 5 |
Category
5. A category of performance for inside
wire and cable systems. Cat5 cables
can be of various gauges, and are useful
in support of applications requiring
a carrier frequency of up to 100 MHz.
Cat5 is now the most common cabling
installed for use in voice and data
systems. Although, cat5e is becoming
a standard of its own. |
| Description:
Cat5e |
Category
5 Enhanced. A developing, non-standard
cabling system. Cat5e is intended to
be manufactured according to tight specifications
in support of signaling rates of up
to 200MHz. The pairs have a much tighter
twist than cat5 cable. This type of
cable is useful in all data applications
including Gigabit Ethernet. |
| Description:
Cat 6 |
Category
6. A developing cabling system standard
for SFTP (Shielded Foil Twisted Pair)
intended to support signaling rates
up to 200MHz. Cat6 consists of 4 twisted
pairs separately wrapped in foil insulators
and twisted again around one another.
Cat6 is used in Gigabit Ethernet and
ATM transmissions. Cat7 does exist and
supports rates up to 600MHz. That is
pretty fast for copper. |
| Description:
Fiber |
Fiber
Optics. Fiber is made of very pure glass.
Digital signals, in the form of modulated
light, travel on strands of fiber for
long distances. Each strand is about
as thin as a human hair.
Fiber over copper: The big advantage
that fiber has over copper is that it
can carry far more information over
much longer distances. Fiber has many,
many years of evolution left before
we will ever understand how much information
it can transmit over long distances.

Structured Wiring
As homes, offices, and our lifestyles incorporate
more and more electronics for entertainment
and communication, the wiring in most homes
will become the weak link. The DNG solution
is called "Structured Wiring."
It's a network of high-speed cables, for
services like telephone, Internet, home
theater, satellite and cable TV, that start
at a central panel and run to wall outlets
in each room in your home.
In the past, most homes were wired for only
basic services like electricity, telephone,
and cable TV. That's not enough to take
advantage of today's new technologies. Structured
Wiring by DNG also enables you to add newly
developed systems as they become available.
Regardless of size, location or cost of
a home, incorporating DNG's structured wiring
standards can add value to the home at resale
and effectively ensure optimum access to
all developing home communication, entertainment,
security and control technologies. Conversely,
homes not built to these standards will
likely be outdated in a few years.
Here are some of the Questions owners and
builders have about structured wiring and
answers to key elements of a wired system:
What is Bandwidth?
- A
wire's capacity for information is called
bandwidth.
- More
bandwidth = More information passing through
the wire.
- Similar
to plumbing, a bigger wire (pipe) can
carry more bandwidth (water).
- The
amount of bandwidth is critical for current
and future information services.
What
is Bell Wire?
- One
pair of copper wires.
- Designed
for voice conversations only.
- Subject
to noise and interference.
- Used
in the majority of homes until recently.
- Relative
capacity: A squirt gun.
What
is Category 5 (CAT 5)?
- 4
twisted pairs of high quality copper wire
enclosed in an outer jacket.
- Used
for phone, fax, modem and high-speed digital
computer transmissions.
- Supports
four phone lines with one cable.
- High
immunity to interference.
- Relative
capacity: A garden hose.
What
is RG6 Quad Shield?
- Coaxial
cable with insulated center wire and four
layers of shielding.
- Supports
hundreds of channels and digital data.
- Used
for cable TV, digital satellite, cable
modem and high-speed interactive video
services.
- High
immunity to interference.
- Relative
capacity: A fire hose.
What
is DSL?
- DSL
stands for Digital Subscriber Line service.
- Transmits
high-speed data anywhere from 50 to 270
times as fast as today's standard modems
(1.5 million to 9 million bits per second).
- Service
provided by the telephone company over
high-quality copper phone wire.
What is Cable Modem Service?
- Cable
modems transmit high-speed data up to
900 times faster than today's analog computer
modems (30 million bits per second).
- Since
neighborhood users "share" available
bandwidth, actual data throughput speed
might be slower.
- Provided
by the cable company over high-quality
coaxial cable.
What is Ethernet?
- Commercial
networking standard for transmitting data
between computers.
- Computers
typically connected via cables to an Ethernet
hub.
- Each
computer must have an Ethernet network
interface card.
- 10BaseT
means the computers are connected with
twisted pair cable (CAT5) at 10 million
bits per second data throughput up to
100BaseT which is 100Mbps.
What is DSS?
- With
Digital Satellite Service (DSS), video
programs are received by a small (18")
satellite dish.
- Signals
are decoded at the TV with a set-top receiver.
- Users
need a traditional TV antenna for local
broadcasts, such as local news.
What
is Whole-House Video?
- Any
video source can be seen on a specific
channel on every TV in the home.
- VCR
or DVD programs can be viewed on any TV.
- Baby
room camera allows sleeping infants to
be watched over from any room.
- Front
door camera enables screening for possible
intruders.
Now
that you know all about Structured Wiring
terms, here are some basic components needed:
Three Major Components:
- Central
Hub (also called Service Center) - central
point accepts incoming services and distributes
services throughout the home.
- High
Performance Cabling - Category 5 telecommunications
cable and RG6 Quad Shield coaxial video
cable provide the "highway"
for information to travel.
- High
Quality Outlets - specifically designed
to support advanced information services,
outlets are the "off-ramp" to
your computers, TVs and telephones.
| The
"Structured" Wiring System: |
 |
- Star-wiring
- instead of daisy-chaining, all
cables are "home-run"
to the central hub.
- High-quality
cable connections (also called terminations)ensure
high-performance end-to-end system.
- Cable
management - services can easily
be redirected as the homeowner's
family grows and their needs change.
- DNG
uses, installs, and is certified
as an OnQ Systems distributor for
all your structured wiring needs.
